How we met

Our story began in Roanoke in 2014. Jonathan had recently moved to the city for a new position with Kroger, while LaPaul was a Roanoke native who had always called the area home. We met online, began spending time together, and quickly realized that something special was taking shape.

Some of our earliest and favorite memories were made in downtown Roanoke. We loved exploring the city together, discovering new places, and simply enjoying everyday life side by side. Roanoke gave us more than a beginning—it gave us the foundation for a relationship that would continue growing through every move and new adventure.

When Jonathan’s career brought him to Charlottesville, we decided it was time to take the next big step and move in together. We purchased our first home there and began building a life that was truly ours. Charlottesville will always hold a special place in our hearts as the city where two separate lives became one home.

The Proposal

Christmas 2020 became one we would never forget—the Christmas we got engaged. After years of building a life together, saying “yes” felt like the perfect celebration of everything we had already shared and everything still ahead of us. Our engagement may have been a long one, but our commitment to one another never wavered.

Another career opportunity eventually brought us to Suffolk, where we purchased our second home and began discovering everything the Hampton Roads area has to offer. This chapter also brought one especially important addition to our family—our dog, Millie—who has filled our home with plenty of love, personality, and entertainment.

Since 2014, our journey has taken us through three cities, two homes, countless memories, and one very loved dog. Through every move and every new beginning, we have learned that home is wherever we are together. After a long engagement, we are overjoyed to finally set the date and begin our next chapter as husbands. We cannot wait to celebrate this moment with the family and friends we love most.
